- When Aariz felt sad and lonely, he learned to "ride the wave of feelings.” Why do you think feelings are like waves?
- One way to cope with uncomfortable emotions is by talking about them with someone. When was the last time you told a family member or friend how you felt?
1. Try the "Right Now I Feel" activity available in our Emotional Intelligence Kit. This activity will encourage your child to express how they feel and can facilitate valuable conversations on how to cope with different emotions.
2. Show your child that feelings are like waves. Simply draw a wavy line on a piece of paper and guide your child to label the high and low points with different emotions. Help them understand that when they feel sad (down), the feeling will come and go in time.
3. Ask your child to draw their emotions. Offer ways to get them started such as "I use jagged lines when I'm angry", "I use gray colors when I'm sad" or "when I get frustrated, I just like to scribble like crazy."
